    Canada’s asylum agreement with the United States infringes upon the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms according to a federal court justice. Federal Court Justice Ann Marie McDonald gave the federal government only six months to respond.

    McDonald’s says the agreement stops people from asking for asylum and entering either The U.S. or Canada at official Canada-U.S. border crossings.

    The Canadian Council for Refugees and Amnesty International were among the organizations which brought forward the case. They argued that by returning ineligible refugees to the States, Canada puts them at risk like being deported to countries where they could be in harm’s way.
