Bianca Adreescu from Canada is eliminated in the French Open after a loss in the first round. From Mississauga, Ontario the number 6 seed lost to Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia today. The match was three hours and 20-minutes, the score was 6-7 (1),7-6 (2), and 9-7. The athlete from Slovenia was ranked number 85 in the world.

This was Zidansek’s first victory over a top-10 opponent and guarantees her a spot in the second round. The match was only Adreescu’s fourth match and the first loss in her career on a clay court at the top-tier level. She actually pulled out of last week’s Strasbourg warm-up event with abdominal discomfort. Even though she managed to win the two games she played.

Before that event, she was off for seven weeks to take a break. She suffered a foot injury in April after the Miami Open and then tested positive for coronavirus when arriving in Spain for the start of the Clay-court season.
