    Denis Shapovalov has sealed his position in the quarter-finals of the Geneva Open. Shapovalov is rated second-seed and is from Richmond Hill, Ontario. He advanced to the quarter-finals by beating Italian qualifier Marco Cecchinato 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-1. This was the second round of the ATP tour 250 clay-court events, which happened on Thursday.

    Shapovalov was stellar on the offense as he won 86 percent of the points when he was first to serve. Comparing to his opponent, Shapovalov was better by 25 percent. The Canadian athlete was also able to save four out of five breakpoints. 

    This was Shapovalov’s first match as he got a bye in the first round of the Geneva Open. The last match he played was over a week ago in the Italian Open against Rafael Nadal. Shapovalov ended up losing in a three-set thriller  His next match is scheduled on Thursday against Serbian Laslo Djere for the quarter-finals.
