Pianist Bruce Liu from Canada has won one of the world’s most prestigious piano competitions. He was chosen the winner by the jury of the 18th Frederic Chopin international piano competition. Along with the title he also received 40,000 euros for first place. This international competition is known for launching pianists’ world careers.

Liu played among 12 finalists and was announced the winner just hours after he performed his last entrant. Liu performed Chopin’s Concerto in E minor, opus 11 with the orchestra at the packed national Philharmonic in Warsaw. At the end of his performance, he was met with a huge round of applause.

Lieu is from Montreal and graduated with great distinction from the Conservatoire de Montreal. That is where he studied with Richard Raymond, and then later worked with Dang Thai Son. After winning the 24-year-old said “Oh my God. I don’t know what to say, honestly… We have been dreaming with all these people here for this prestigious stage.”
