26 crew members and 1 passenger has tested positive for COVID-19 aboard on the Carnival Vista cruise ship. The ship made a stop in Belize City on Wednesday, and the Belize Tourist Board identified all the cases. The Carnival Vista is carrying a crew of 1,400 and nearly 3,000 passengers.

All 27 people infected are said to be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus. They were all isolated with mild or no symptoms, according to the statement the board said. The tourism board noted that 99.98 per cent of the ship’s crew was fully vaccinated prior to departure. Also, 96.5 per cent of its passengers were considered vaccinated.

The ship departed from Galveston, Texas, and announced they had positive cases last week, but did not specify the number of cases. The cruise ship required passengers to be vaccinated but there were some exceptions for children and people with medical issues. The cruise line released a statement on August 4, explaining passengers will have to wear masks indoors and provide a negative COVID-19 test within three days of departure.
