    According to Forbes, Cristiano Ronaldo is set to surpass his long-term rival Lionel Messi as the highest-paid footballer internationally. The Portuguese superstar is forecasted to earn US$125 million before taxes this season as he moves back to Manchester United. He will be earning $70 million coming from his salary and bonuses alone.

    Messi is on pace to earn $110 million in the 2021-22 season which will make him the second-highest earner in the game. Messi was traded from Barcelona this year to Paris Saint-Germain. The 43-year-old will actually have a higher salary than Ronaldo at US$75 million.

    Third, in line is Neymar who is expected to earn $95 million and fourth goes to Kylian Mbappe who will earn $43 million. The Parison side owns three of the top five highest-earning players on the planet. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is the fifth highest-earning, with the Egyptian expected to earn $41 million.
