Canadian Denis Shapovalov lost in the first round of the French Open to Denmark’s Holger Rune. Raised in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Shapovalov lost to his opponent 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the Grand Slam  tournament. The Canadian was seeded 14th when heading onto the clay court.

The 18-year-old Holger Rune is ranked 40th in the world. After the match Shapovolav said “It was difficult. For sure I wasn’t able to bring out my best performance. It’s definitely frustrating, … But yeah, it just shows I have a lot to work on. And just excited to get back to work. Never think I’m done learning and improving. So yeah, it’s difficult moment, but I just keep working.”

During the match on Tuesday, Shapovalov has six aces to Rune’s none. However, the teenager was dominant in virtually every other category. Rune is a rising star on the ATP tour after winning the BMW Open this month and a semifinalist in Lyon last week.
