This afternoon Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to get his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The news released was issued by his office and said Ford will receive the shot in an Etobicoke pharmacy at 12:30 p.m. The premier was administered his first dose on April 9.

It has been a week since the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommended that individuals who got an AstraZeneca vaccine as a first dose should receive a second dose of an mRNA vaccine. That means they would receive a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine due to the rare issue of blood clots associated with AstraZeneca.

Many Ontario residents who received an AstraZeneca vaccine were confused and frustrated with these recommendations. NACI still says anyone who got the vaccine is in “good protection against infection and very good protection against severe disease and hospitalization.”
