    According to Statistics Canada, in January, the economy lost 213,000 jobs as employment reached the lowest level since August last year.

    The unemployment rate surged 0.6 per cent to 9.4 per cent, which is the highest since August.

    Refinitiv, a financial data firm, announced that the average economist estimate was a loss of 47,500 jobs and an unemployment rate of 8.9 per cent in January.
