The Edmonton Oilers have been eliminated from the NHL playoffs by the Colorado Avalanche in overtime. The Oilers lost four straight to the Avalanche in the Western Conference finals but the team learned plenty of lessons.

Edmonton was able to fight back from a 3-2 deficit to beat the Los Angeles Kings in seven games in the opening round of playoffs. In the second round, they faced off against the Calgary Flames and eliminated them in 5 games. Atturi Lehkonen scored at 1:19 of overtime Monday to defeat the Oilers 6-5.

Oilers interim head coach Jay Woodcroft said “we’re playing hockey on June 6, … In order to accomplish that and be one of the final four teams, you’ve done some good things – and I don’t think we can lose sight of that. But there’s a lot more required in order to find a way to get to the Stanley Cup final.”
