TransAlta Corp. announced that it will end mining operations at its Highvale coal mine by 2021 and stop utilizing coal energy to power its generators by January 1, 2022.
The company explained that its Keephills Unit 1 and Sundance Unit 4 would only operate on gas.
Dawn Farrell, TransAlta chief executive, says the closing will come 4 years ahead of its original scheduled time.
