Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said Americans fully vaccinated against COVID-19 could be allowed in Canada by mid-August. He explained the decision is based on the “current positive path” of the vaccine rollout in Canada. If the rate of vaccinations remains on this trend, fully vaccinated travellers from all over the world could book a trip in early September, Trudeau said.

The announcement was released during the final paragraphs of a readout from the Prime Minister’s office on Thursday. The statement didn’t describe if eligible travelers needed to provide proof of vaccination. The Government in the U.S already denied the idea of a vaccine “passport”. Trudeau took the time to boast that Canada is leading the G20 countries in vaccine rates.

The reopening process has already started, fully vaccinated Canadians are exempted from the 14-day quarantine requirement. The Prime Minister said next weeks readout will share more details on these plans. A New York representative, Brian Higgins said, “The finish line is finally in sight for people who have been separated from their families and properties for way too long.”
