Drivers in Toronto and the GTA should drive more cautiously Friday as snow is expected to cause hazardous conditions. Environment Canada said snowfall accumulation is expected to be 5 cm. The national weather agency said “a swath of snow” will move across the region that will pass by early afternoon.

The chief medical officer of health has declared an extreme cold weather alert in Toronto. There are warming centres open across the city to help any Torontonian from freezing weather. Heavy snow is expected at times and blowing snow will create reduced visibility on the road.

Environment Canada explained that “the morning commute will likely be impacted due to snow falling heavily at times… Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.” The agency warned drivers to slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
