    Statistics Canada reported that in October, the consumer price index surged 0.7 per cent compared to a year ago as higher food prices led to the annual inflation increase. 

    According to financial firm Refinitiv, economists predicted a year over year surge of 0.4 per cent.

    After 8 months of monthly readings being under 1 per cent, the jump in October is the sharpest increase since June.
