During a thunderstorm that swept through southern Quebec Thursday afternoon, two homes were destroyed after a lightning strike. A third home was badly damaged and nobody was injured.

Police say a bolt of lightning struck one home around 4:15 p.m. and set a house on fire on Cerisiers Street in the off-island suburb of Ste-Marthe-sur-le-lac. They explained that high winds caused sparks from the fire to quickly spread to neighbouring homes.

Inspector Jean-Philippe Labbé with the Régie de Police du Lac des Deux-Montagnes said “I have never seen a fire caused by lightning destroying homes in my 22 years as a police officer,” Drone footage of the aftermath was shared on CTV News.
