As gas prices reach all time highs across the country, many people are looking for ways to save money. The daily average retail price for gas across the country was at $1.974 per litre on Tuesday. At the start of the year the average hovered around $146.1, according to Natural Resources Canada.

Teresa Di Felice, an assistant vice-president at the Canadian Automobile Association’s south central Ontario branch offered some tips to get better mileage. And saving on gas starts before you actually leave your home. Checking the new or a app to plan your route and avoid accident zones, or slow moving areas can help save gas.

Makes sure the vehicle is running properly, ensuring engine filters are clean, brake fluids are topped, and tire pressure is optimal can help save money. Di Felice also said it is important to avoid hard braking as cars consume more fuel when they go from stopping to travelling at high speed immediately.
