    The Toronto Maple Leafs won 5-0 Monday night in Game 1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Austin Matthews scored twice and got one assist to complete a three-point night. Jack Campbell made 23 saves to achieve his second playoff shutout of his career. Mitch marner broke a long post-season goal drought by scoring one and getting two assists in the game. 

    Jake Muzzin and David Kampf scored on a short-handed breakaway. The Leafs managed to kill off five Lightning power plays, including a five-minute major. Toronto’s head coach Sheldon Keefe expected a “borderline violent” series, and it started 7 minutes into the first period. Leafs winger Kyle Clifford hit Ross Colton from behind receiving a five-minute major and a game misconduct. 

    The crowd’s energy in the Scotiabank Arena was electric. Matthews received “M-V-P!” chants as he won his second straight Maurice Richard Trophy. The game featured multiple fights leaving multiple players with misconduct penalties.
