On April 14, 2021, the Pentagon leaked a video of a flashing, triangle-shaped object that flew over a U.S. warship. Less than a month after the video, the Pentagon released a memo on their website confirming the video was authentic but did explain what it even shows. This got the attention of a watchdog for the U.S Department of Defense to evaluate the Pentagon’s response.

The assistant inspector general for evaluations, Randolph R. Stone will “determine the extent to which the Department of Defense has taken actions regarding Unidentified Aerial Phenomena,” He will begin the investigation sometime this month, and is unclear when the evaluation will conclude.

A watchdog’s job is to ensure ethical conduct and effectiveness are being displayed in each department. He/She also looks out for any fraud, waste, or abuse in the department of defense.
