The NHL and the National Hockey League Players’ Association will suspend all operations from Wednesday to Christmas Day. This comes after a rise in positive COVID-19 tests within players and staff. The association and league made a joint statement Monday night and said all NHL team facilities will be closed until Boxing Day.

This decision will result in five more games being postponed, which were all supposed to be played on Thursday. The league was initially supposed to start their holiday break Friday and end Sunday. So far, the NHL has been forced to delay 49 dames this season, with 44 announced since December 13.

Practices will be resumed on Sunday afternoon and games are set to come back next Monday. When the team facilities start to reopen, all people traveling with the team will have to show a negative COVID-19 test result to gain access. There are still two games remaining before the new holiday break on Tuesday.
