Around 1 p.m. today the Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce are expected to address the media at Queens Park. The announcement will be about whether schools will reopen to in-person learning for the rest of the academic year.

The Ford Government has been reviewing responses since Monday to a letter that was sent asking for advice. The range of experts that responded included public health officials as well as teachers’ unions. But on Wednesday, sources hinted that Ford was opposed to reopening schools before September, which was first reported by the Toronto Sun.

Ford will discuss with his cabinet Wednesday morning before he is scheduled to speak with Stephen Lecce. Since April 19 students in Ontario have been learning remotely as a devastating third wave increased case counts.
