On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 554 new infections of COVID-19. This is the third day in a row where the province is reporting cases under 600 and the majority of infected are unvaccinated. There are at least 194 people in Ontario hospitals due to COVID-19, 186 of the patients are either unvaccinated or have an unknown status.
The seven-day rolling average is up to 732 as it was at 728 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 3.3 per cent as it processed 21,840 tests in the last 24-hour period. 418 of the confirmed cases today were among people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or their status is unknown.
The province is currently in Step 3 of its COVID-19 reopening plan. Indoor dining, gyms, hair salons, movies, and more are allowed to open with limited capacity and restrictions. Over the past 2 days, there were 149 new cases in Toronto, 41 cases in York Region, 46 cases in Peel Region, and 25 in Durham Region. Hamilton logged 21 new cases, 22 in Ottawa, and Windsor-Essex logged 47.
