On Wednesday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 11,582 new infections of COVID-19, however, officials have warned the number is an underestimate. The minister’s office has called the increase in hospitalizations “explosive”. There are at least 2,081 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 288 people are in intensive care units.
The seven-day rolling average rose to 10,327 today which is the highest it has ever been in Ontario. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 28.1 per cent as it processed over 59,137 tests in the last 24-hour period. The province announced two weeks ago that anyone aged 18 and older can book an appointment for a booster shot starting today.
According to Ontario, 202 of the people in ICU with COVID-19 are either not fully vaccinated or have an unknown status. 86 of the patients in ICU are considered to be fully vaccinated. There were 2,524 new cases logged in Toronto, 1,294 cases in York Region, and 1,435 in Peel Region. The province also reported 511 cases in Halton Region, 469 in Ottawa, and 584 in Hamilton.
