    On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 2,427 new infections of COVID-19 however, the number is an estimate due to testing restrictions. There are at least 1,003 patients in hospitals for COVID-19 and 297 people are in intensive care units. The last time the province reported fewer than 1000 people in hospital with COVID-19 was on December 30.

    Last week, 92.1 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and  89.5 per cent had two doses. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 9.8 per cent as it processed over 21,550 tests in the last 24-hour period. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the province has identified more than 1,093,134 lab-confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

    Since December 2020, more than 31,000,000 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. There were 357 new cases logged in Toronto, 94 cases in York Region, and 130 in Peel Region. The province also reported 106 cases in Durham Region, 131 in Ottawa, and all other regions reported fewer than 100 cases on Friday.
