    On Friday, health officials in Ontario are reporting 3,124 new infections of COVID-19 signifying a major increase from yesterday. The last time the province recorded daily case counts this high was on May 9. On Thursday there were 2,421 new infections, 1,808 on Wednesday, and 1,429 on Tuesday.

    The seven-day rolling average rose to 1,914 today as it was at 1,005 at this point last week. The Ministry of Health says the positivity rate is at 8.2 per cent as it processed over 51,600 tests in the last 24-hour period. Of the cases reported today, 874 involved people who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 2,120 were in people who are fully vaccinated.

    According to Ontario, as of Wednesday, 24,711,700 shots have been administered to people in the province. There were 759 new cases logged in Toronto, 208 cases in Kingston and 209 in Peel Region. The province also reported 194 cases in Halton Region, 294 in Ottawa, and 215 in York Region.
