Popcorn will be back on the menu at movie theatres as Ontario lifts restrictions on January 31. The Doug Ford government finalized regulations that will offer specific details on what is, and what is not, allowed when restrictions ease. The decision to allow snacks at the movies came only a few days after officials in the province said they would be banned.

At that time Cineplex theatres considered the decision “disappointing” but will “keep out poppers warm so we are ready for when these unwarranted restrictions lift,” According to the Ford government, the regulations will be signed by lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell and will be released publicly later this afternoon.

On Monday, movie theatres, meeting rooms, and event spaces will be able to operate with 50 per cent capacity or 500 people, whichever is less. Sporting events and concert venues will be able to welcome spectators at 50 per cent capacity or 500 people. Social gathering limits will remain with 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.
