After winning bronze in the 200-metre freestyle swimming, Penny Oleksiak became the most decorated summer Olympian. The 21-year-old from Toronto, Ontario commented “I just love the Olympics,… I think they’re so fun. Just knowing the whole world is watching is super crazy.”

The third-place victory secured Oleksiak’s sixth medal in the Olympics passing the rower Leslie Thompson-Willie and track and field’s Phil Edwards. One more medal and she will move ahead of speedskater Cindy Klassen and cyclist/speedskater Clara Hughes. With more races in Oleksiak’s future, she had no time to think about her place in history.

After getting her bronze medal, she swam the 100-metre heats in the evening and will advance to the semifinal. Oleksiak won her first gold medal in the 100-metre freestyle at the age of 16. The medal was accompanied by a silver in the 100-metre butterfly and a pair of bronze in the freestyle relay in Rio de Janeiro.
