Queen Elizabeth has been Britain’s longest-serving monarch and this year she celebrates 70 years on the throne. Birthday celebrations are taking place on Thursday at her Sandringham estate. Gun salutes rang across London and Windsor and military bands played Happy Birthday.

The queen took a picture with two white ponies that were released for this occasion. She is also celebrating a historic Platinum Jubilee this year and government ministers joined the Royal Family in sending their wishes to the Queen. She has recently stepped back from most public duties this year over concerns about her health.

Her grandson Prince William and his wife Kate said on Twitter “An inspiration to so many across the U.K., the Commonwealth and the world, it’s particularly special to be celebrating in this Platinum Jubilee year,”
