The SickKids Foundation announced a $50 million donation that will extend research and treatment in the field of pediatric brain and mental health. The foundation said this donation is impactful as the pandemic has taken a toll on the youth’s mental health. The donation came from entrepreneur Garry Hurvitz and it will help improve outcomes for children and youth affected by neurological and mental health conditions.

The not-for-profit says they will use the funds to hire a dedicated director for the rebranded GarryHurvitz Centre for Brain & Mental Health. The hospital will also be able to support new types of therapies for neuromuscular, neuroinflammatory, and neurodevelopment.

The money will help improve treatment models for youth and families affected by complex mental health issues. The innovation fund will support investments for cutting-edge research. The organization further explains the donation really comes at a crucial time for SickKids research on the pandemic and its effects on youth mental health.
