Elon Musk said on Thursday that SpaceX will launch the first orbital flight of its towering Starship, and the world’s most powerful rocket ever built. He said this will happen in the coming month or two and he’s confident the Starship will reach orbit by the end of this year. This was the first major Starship update in more than two years.

The rocket measures 119-metre tall and is standing at SpaceX’s Texas spaceport. He encouraged the nighttime crowd by saying “let’s make this real!… This is really some wild stuff here… In fact, it’s hard to believe it’s real.” Nasa plans to use this reusable Starship to land astronauts on the moon by 2025.

For now, initial flights of the rocket will carry Musk’s internet satellites, called Starlinks, into orbit. Musk said “there will probably be a few bumps in the road, but we want to iron those out with satellite missions and test missions” The rocket uses a Super Heavy first-stage booster that has not been used yet.
