Soccer fans in Vancouver were disappointed after an abrupt cancellation of the friendly match between Canada and Panama. The friendly match would have counted as World Cup preparations. Many fans were upset after traveling great distances to watch their national team play.

Danny Bromley, who drove to the arena with his children to watch the game said “I mean we just got the the World Cup, a match in Vancouver and we get to finally see some excitement for the beautiful game in our country and this is what happens?” The family had driven more than an hour from Chilliwack, East of Vancouver.

The reason for the abrupt cancellation was because the men’s soccer team refused due to a contract dispute between players and the sport’s national governing body. Many Canadians were gathered downtown wearing team Canada equipment and ready to support their squad. However, many of them left disappointed.
