The government and train operators in Britain are warning people to avoid travel if possible as the nation is under an extreme heat warning. This is Britain’s first-ever extreme heat warning and it includes large parts of England.  The weather has already disrupted travel, health care and schools.

The country is in a “red” alert and will continue from Monday to Tuesday, temperatures reached 40 C for the first time ever in the nation. According to the U.K. Met Office, the weather can pose risks to people with serious illnesses. The highest temperature ever recorded in Britain was 38.7 C in the summer of 2019.

Met Office CEO Penelope Endersby said “sp it’s tomorrow that we’re really seeing the higher chance of 40 degrees and temperatures above that , … Forty-one isn’t off the cards. We’ve even got some 43s in the model but we’re hoping it won’t be as high as that.”
