Thursday was World Password Day and a new survey unveiled that many internet user’s passwords are considerably weak. Many people tend to recycle passwords by using the same one for many different services so it is not difficult to remember. According to security company Cisco Canada, that’s exactly what cyber criminals are hoping for.

A global advisory chief information officer at Cisco Canada Dave Lewis said ‘The attacker know this and they are searching for easy-to-guess passwords on continuous basis,” According to a mobile security firm called Lookout, the five most commonly hacked passwords are ‘123456’, ‘123456789’, ‘qwerty’, ‘password’, and ‘12345’

A strong password should consist of upper and lower case letters, as well as symbols. Many people use password managers so they can use different passwords for each site or service they use. Hackers will also try to use clues on social media to guess passwords that may be something like the name of children or a pet. .
