    Any Canadian athlete wanting to compete in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics or Paralympics will have to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The news was announced by the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Committees on Wednesday and said the decision was based on the support of the boards of directors and athlete commissions.

    David Shoemaker, the Canadian Olympic Committee CEO noted that the 840 coaches and staff that traveled to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics without a positive case. In a statement, Shoemaker said “We want to do the same for Beijing. 

    The United States Olympic Committee had already announced a similar vaccination mandate. The Winter Olympics in Beijing is set to open on February 4 and the Winter Paralympics are scheduled to open on March 4.
