If you have to go outside today, remember to dress in layers and cover as much skin as possible due to the extreme cold weather alert. Toronto was issued the cold weather alert on Monday as temperatures plummeted in the morning. Environment Canada is predicting a high of -6 C in Toronto however that may feel lower.

When adding the wind chill to the equation, the temperature today will feel closer to -20 C this morning. Wind chill refers to when the body continuously tries to warm up a thin layer of air surrounding the skin. If wind speeds are high it will remove the layer of air on our skin which will cool us down faster. The temperature will warm up a bit during the day Monday, but freezing cold temperatures will return at night.

The national weather agency said governing temperatures will drop to -16 C but feel closer to -25 C with the wind chill. There will be warming centres open across the city today in response to the extreme cold weather alert. The alert was issued by the city’s medical officer of health on Monday morning.
