For the second time this week, Toronto has been issued an extreme cold weather alert as sub-zero temperatures are expected Friday. According to Environment Canada, the temperature high in Toronto today is set to be -6 C but it will feel like -18 C with the wind chill. They explained that today’s weather conditions can pose a risk for frostbite.

In preparation for the weather forecast over the next 24-hours, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health issued the alert Friday morning. The alert will remain in effect until further notified. The alert today comes after an alert that was issued by the city on Monday when temperatures felt like -20 C.

These extreme cold weather alerts are usually released when temperatures are forecasted to reach -15 C or colder. Also if the wind chill forecast is to reach -20 C or colder. The city has warming centres open at 129 Peter St., 5800 Yonge St., and at the Exhibition Place.
