The city of Toronto has a new fire truck that will allow fire crews to reach new heights. Mayor John Tory and Fire Chief Matthew Pegg displayed the Bronto Skylift 70m articulated aerial unit, nicknamed Tower 1. Its firefighting apparatus is the tallest in North America and at full extension it can reach up to 70m. That is approximately 22 storeys high.

At a news conference Tory said “when you give the fire service this new height that they need to reach new parts of our growing city this makes it much more certain that we can provide residents in the city, across the board with the king of protection they need,”

The next tallest apparatus that Toronto has can reach 11 storeys, so the Tower 1 extends double the height. The truck is very essential as Toronto has approximately 2,500 highrise buildings. The truck will be stationed downtown at 339 Queens Quay W., where the largest density of high rise buildings.
