    Small businesses say that they are preparing to face a long recovery after COVID-19 took $1.4 billion in tourism spending out of the Ottawa economy. 

    Although hotels are considered an essential service, bookings have been down all year and have also lost business from canceled conferences and events. 

    The general manager of the Westin and Delta Hotels downtown, Ross Meredith, said that holiday revenues are nowhere near the usual expectations.
