Certain supply chains have been halted due to the 4 highway links between the lower Mainland and B.C.’s Interior being closed. Truck driver Larry Stefaniuk was shipping about $50,000 worth of ground fish from Vancouver Island to a pet processing plant in Edmonton. Unfortunately, he came upon one of the landslides blocking Highway 7 on Sunday night.

Stefaniuk was forced to leave his truck and find shelter as he was stuck in a torrential downpour in the dark. On Tuesday the truck and its cargo were still on the road and the clock was ticking for the perishable load. Its estimated shelf life is about six days and he started hauling the load two days after it was ground. Stefaniuk says he only has two days to get it to the plant before its total waste.

Stefaniuk is only one of the many truck drivers whose cargo got halted due to the inclement weather. There are four highways that connect the lower mainland with the rest of the province and they’ve all been closed.
