    Starting Sunday, The Commerce Department will ban TikTok and WeChat transactions. 

    According to Wilbur Ross, the Commerce Secretary, the order, which came into effect on Friday, is to “combat China’s malicious collection of American citizens’ personal data.”

    Downloading and using the app won’t be a banned transaction; messaging on the app “could be directly or indirectly impaired” by the new ban, but those who use it to communicate through messaging won’t be penalized.
