The Vandenberg Air Force Base located in the state of California is going to be renamed Space Force Base. The name will be changed this Friday afternoon and will be honored by a ceremony on the parade field at the state’s Central Coast. That area is motley used for testing ballistic missiles, construction orbital launches, and science or commercial purposes.

The Space Force is the sixth uniformed military branch and was founded in 2019 under President Donald Trump’s administration. Individuals previously assigned to Air Force Space Command were transferred to Space Force.

The Vandenberg site was established in 1941 as Camp Cooke, useful for the tank, infantry, and artillery training. It was later redesignated as Cooke Air Force Base during the Cold War, as its geographical location is ideal for missile testing. Finally, was renamed Vandenberg Air Force Base in honor of General Hoyt S. Vandenberg.
